The QDB–MOI B2B Matchmaking Meeting is a business-to-business networking event organised by the Qatar Development Bank together with the Ministry of Interior, connecting businesses directly with procurement teams, potential partners and other companies. Attending as a representative of Tejwaans Corporate Group was a reminder that in Qatar’s growing business ecosystem, relationships and direct conversations often open doors that advertising and cold outreach cannot.
Business growth is not always about finding the right advertisement, sending another email or making another sales call.
Sometimes, the most valuable opportunities begin with a simple conversation.
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Qatar Development Bank (QDB) B2B Matchmaking Meeting with the Ministry of Interior (MOI), representing Tejwaans Corporate Group.
It was an excellent opportunity to meet business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and representatives from different sectors, exchange ideas and explore potential opportunities for collaboration.
More importantly, it gave me a firsthand understanding of why B2B matchmaking and business networking events in Qatar can be so valuable for companies looking to grow.
What Is the QDB–MOI B2B Matchmaking Meeting?
For someone who has never attended a B2B matchmaking event, the concept may sound complicated. It is actually quite straightforward.
A B2B matchmaking meeting brings businesses together with potential buyers, procurement teams, government organisations, business partners and other relevant stakeholders. The purpose is to create meaningful business conversations and identify potential areas for:
- Business partnerships
- Supplier relationships
- Procurement opportunities
- Service agreements
- Strategic collaborations
- Market access
- Business development
QDB’s B2B Matchmaking initiative is designed to connect businesses with procurement teams and help them understand purchasing opportunities, contract requirements and technical specifications. The initiative also provides a platform for businesses to showcase their capabilities and build relationships with potential buyers and partners.
This makes B2B matchmaking different from a traditional networking event. You are not simply meeting people randomly — the objective is to create relevant business connections.
Who Organised the Event?
The event brought together the Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and the Ministry of Interior (MOI) in a business-to-business matchmaking environment.
QDB plays an important role in supporting Qatar’s private sector and SMEs through initiatives focused on market access, business development and financing. Its B2B matchmaking activities are part of a wider effort to help businesses connect with potential buyers and access local markets.
The participation of the Ministry of Interior made this particular event especially interesting because businesses had an opportunity to better understand the requirements and potential areas of engagement associated with a major government entity.
For companies interested in working with government organisations, understanding how procurement works, what capabilities are required and how suppliers can position themselves can be extremely valuable.
My Experience at the Event
Representing Tejwaans Corporate Group at the event was a great experience. One of the biggest highlights was meeting and speaking with many business owners and professionals from different backgrounds and industries.
Every conversation offered something different. Some discussions were about business expansion. Others were about partnerships and collaboration. Some were about the challenges businesses face when operating in Qatar. And others were simply opportunities to meet new people and understand what they are doing in the market.

For me, this was one of the biggest lessons from the event:
You never know where your next business opportunity will come from.
It could come from a potential client. It could come from a partner. It could come from someone who refers you to another company. Or it could simply come from a conversation that develops into something much bigger later.
One of the Most Memorable Moments: Meeting Fawad Rana
There was also a particularly funny and memorable moment during the event. I had the opportunity to meet Fawad Rana, the owner of Lahore Qalandars.
The funny part? When we first saw him, we knew we had seen his face somewhere before. We were thinking: “We definitely know this person…” But for some reason, we couldn’t remember exactly who he was.
After actually meeting him and having a conversation, it finally clicked — Lahore Qalandars! It was one of those moments where you recognise someone’s face but your brain takes a little longer to connect the dots.
Meeting him personally was definitely one of the highlights of the day and added a fun memory to an already great business experience.
Why Are B2B Networking Events Important for Businesses in Qatar?
Events like the QDB–MOI matchmaking meeting offer several potential benefits for businesses.
1. Direct Business Connections
One of the biggest advantages is the ability to meet relevant people directly. Instead of trying to identify decision-makers through cold emails or LinkedIn messages, B2B matchmaking creates an environment where businesses can have direct conversations. For SMEs especially, this can be extremely valuable.
2. Potential Procurement Opportunities
Businesses often struggle to understand where upcoming opportunities exist. A matchmaking meeting can help companies learn more about:
- Procurement requirements
- Supplier expectations
- Potential purchasing needs
- Contract opportunities
- Technical requirements
- Qualification processes
QDB’s own description of its B2B matchmaking programme emphasises engagement with procurement teams and understanding purchasing opportunities and contract requirements.
3. Build Strategic Partnerships
Not every conversation needs to end with a sale. Sometimes the best outcome is finding another business that complements your services — Business A + Business B = a better solution for the customer.
Strategic partnerships can help businesses:
- Expand their service offering
- Enter new markets
- Share expertise
- Reach new customers
- Bid for larger opportunities
- Develop joint solutions
This is one reason I believe entrepreneurs should attend networking events with an open mindset. Don’t only ask “Can this person become my customer?” — also ask “Can we create something together?”
4. Learn About the Qatar Business Ecosystem
Another major benefit is knowledge. When you speak with business owners from different industries, you learn about the market from perspectives that you may never get from a report or a search engine. You learn what businesses are struggling with, what customers are asking for, which industries are expanding, where companies need support, and what challenges entrepreneurs face. This kind of information can help businesses make better decisions.
5. Increase Brand Visibility
Networking events are also an opportunity to introduce your company to people who may not know about it. For Tejwaans Corporate Group, this is particularly relevant because our work goes beyond a single service — we support businesses across different stages of their journey in Qatar, from company formation and registration to PRO services, taxation, accounting, consulting, banking and ongoing corporate support.
That means networking with entrepreneurs and established companies allows us to understand their challenges and identify where our services may be useful.
6. Discover What Businesses Actually Need
One of the biggest mistakes in business development is assuming you already know what customers want. Events like this provide an opportunity to listen. Instead of saying “Here are all our services,” you can ask “What challenges are you currently facing?” That question can reveal opportunities that you may never have discovered through traditional marketing.
What Does This Mean for Businesses Looking to Start in Qatar?
For international investors and entrepreneurs considering Qatar, networking can be particularly useful. Setting up a company is only the beginning. Businesses may also need support with:
- Company registration
- Licensing and business activities
- PRO services
- Visas and residency
- Corporate banking
- Accounting and taxation
- Compliance
- Office solutions
- Business consulting
Tejwaans Corporate Group currently provides services across these areas, positioning itself as a long-term business partner rather than simply a company-registration provider.
How Businesses Can Make the Most of B2B Events
If you are planning to attend a similar event in Qatar, don’t just show up with business cards — prepare beforehand.
1. Know Your Business
Be able to explain your company in 30 seconds.
2. Know Your Ideal Customer
Understand exactly who you want to meet.
3. Prepare Your Elevator Pitch
Keep it short and focused on the problem you solve.
4. Ask Questions
Don’t spend the entire meeting talking about yourself.
5. Take Notes
Write down important information immediately after meetings.
6. Follow Up
This is probably the most important step. A connection isn’t valuable if you never follow up — send a LinkedIn connection, send your company profile, schedule another meeting, continue the conversation.
The Biggest Lesson I Took From the Event
For me, the biggest takeaway was simple:
Business is built on relationships.
We live in a world where we can communicate with almost anyone instantly — LinkedIn, WhatsApp, email, social media, search engines, digital advertising. But there is still tremendous value in sitting across from someone and having a real conversation. A face-to-face conversation creates a different level of trust and understanding. And sometimes, one conversation can lead to an opportunity you never expected.
Thank You to QDB and MOI
I would like to sincerely thank Qatar Development Bank and the Ministry of Interior for organising and inviting us to participate in such an excellent initiative.
The event created a valuable environment for businesses to connect, exchange ideas, understand opportunities and build relationships. For entrepreneurs and companies operating in Qatar, initiatives that bring the public and private sectors closer together can play an important role in strengthening the business ecosystem.
I am grateful to have been part of it and look forward to attending more events like this in the future.
