Your business activity is one of the most important pieces of information in the entire company formation process. It is not just a description — it directly determines which authority can license you, whether foreign ownership is available, what documents are needed, and what type of office your company requires.

A company describing itself broadly as a “consulting company” is not enough. Authorities expect a specific, accurate activity such as:

• “Management consulting services”
• “Digital marketing and advertising services”
• “Software development and IT consulting”

Some activities are open to 100% foreign ownership, some require a Qatari partner, and some need additional approval from a sector regulator before a license can be issued. You can also typically register more than one activity under a single commercial record, subject to the authority’s rules.
