Power of Attorney (POA)

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows one person (the “agent”) to act on behalf of another (the “principal”) for specific matters — in company formation, this is most often used when an investor cannot be physically present in Qatar to complete every registration step themselves.

A Power of Attorney can allow a representative, such as a company formation consultant or a co-founder, to:

• Submit and sign company registration documents
• Liaise with government authorities on the applicant’s behalf
• Complete specific administrative steps named in the document

A Power of Attorney issued outside Qatar typically needs to be notarized, and often legalized and translated into Arabic, before it will be accepted by a Qatar authority. The scope of authority granted should be clearly limited to what is actually needed — a POA can be broad or narrow depending on how it is drafted.
