Company Formation Document

Qatar ID (QID)

The Qatar ID, commonly called the QID, is the official residency card issued to anyone legally residing in Qatar — whether on an employment visa, family visa, or investor/partner visa. Unlike a passport, which proves nationality, the QID proves your current residency status inside Qatar.

During company formation, your QID becomes relevant if:

  • You already live in Qatar and want to be listed as a shareholder, director or manager
  • You need to sign documents in person at a Qatar government office
  • The company needs to open a corporate bank account, since banks typically request the QID of signatories who reside in Qatar

If you do not yet reside in Qatar, you generally cannot provide a QID at the application stage — in that case, your passport and, where applicable, a power of attorney are used instead until your residency is arranged.

Holding a valid QID does not, by itself, authorize you to work for or manage every type of business. Employment and work-authorization requirements are assessed separately from company ownership.
